The WIKF Course in the
Netherlands a great success

On the 15th and 16th of January WIKF Netherlands organised a work out with Jon Wicks (World Chief Instructor) 8th Dan and Jerry Smit 5th Dan Chief Instructor, Wado International Karate-do Federation Netherlands.

On the 15th of January the Wado Ryu Karate-do course was held in Zwijndrecht from 16.30 until 19.30. More the 85 people from all age groups with different coloured belts were represented. For many students this was the first time to train with Sensei Jon Wicks. Jerry Smit started the course with the warm up. Jon Wicks demonstrated some technical combinations. It was clearly obvious that Jon Wicks was trained by Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki. The movements were identical and the importance of nagasu was shown. Furthermore during the training Heisoku Dachi, Musubi Dachi and Zenkutsu Dachi were demonstrated. After practising some basic techniques Sensei Wicks explained renraku waza combination number 1 followed by an intensive Rohai Kata performance by all the students, along with the tanto dori training technique number 1 was practiced. The course ended with Kihon Gumite number 5.

The 16th of January the location for the Wado course moved to Haarlem. The day started from 09.00-11.00 with the Kata course and from 11.00- 13.00 the day finished with a Tanto Dori course. The Dojo was filled with more than 90 students who came from all over the Netherlands. After the warm up partner combinations were trained, starting with nagasu. Renraku waza combination 2 and 3 were practiced. Later on during the morning Brown and Black belts trained with Sensei Wicks, the kata Chinto and the lower belts trained with Sensei Smit Pinan Sandan Kata and also Kaisetsu.

During the Tanto Dori course technique number 1 and technique number 6 were exercised.

It was general agreed that it was a fantastic weekend during which we received a lot of information and we were able to practice a lot. All students went home enthusiastic and satisfied.
